All instructional classes meet at Rosenwald  community center, unless stated otherwise.  Preregistration required for all classes, but  participants may start any time.

NRA Home Firearm Safety/Can You Survive 3 Seconds?

This course for safe gun handling is conducted in the classroom only. Students are taught NRA's three rules for safe gun handling, primary causes of firearms accidents, firearm parts, how to load & unload certain action types, ammunition components, cleaning, care, safe storage of firearms and ammunition and the benefits of becoming an active participant in the shooting sports. Students will receive the NRA Home Firearm Safety handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Basic Firearm Training Program brochure, Course Completion Certificate. Safety comes before all else. This class will meet requirements for the Virginia Concealed Carry Permit. *Only individuals 21 and older can apply for the concealed Carry Permit.

Stress Reduction Meditation and Yoga

(ages 12 – 90)
Start your day with fresh air and a walk in the park!  Then join a relaxing class of gentle yoga, stretching, movement and breathing meditations to music.  Relax and energize for the entire day.  Easy, fun, and just right for both beginners and advanced.  Be active and feel good all summer!
Facilitated by Prem Geet with 25 years of experience in relaxation techniques, yoga, meditation movement, deep breathing forms and transformational group processes.

Pickles and Jams


The Pickles & Jams will be a Water based Canning Class.  We plan to make one batch of pickles and one batch of Seedless Raspberry Jam.

Jams should be mostly fruit – not sugar, so we will use Pomona’s Pectin to process these in a water bath method. Summer gardens usually include a patch of cucumbers.  If you have a green thumb then you may have a surplus.  Why not make these into Pickles. Dill, Sweet & Sour or Bread and Butter.  We will show you how. Each participant will get to take home a jar of each...pickles and jam.

Artisan Bread Baking


Artisan Bread making at home has never been easier. Let instructor Sharon Munyak, owner of the family owned and operated Hobby Hill Farm in Powhatan, show you how to make artisan breads using a pizza stone, dutch oven and baking sheets. Each participant will receive a bread making vessel and two bread making kits of flour, salt, and yeast ($10 value included in the registration fee) that will make the best bread you have ever tasted. Discover the secrets of the trade and make preservative free bread for your family. This dough can be made in advance and will store up to 10 days. And, it literally takes under 10 minutes to prepare!

Ballroom Dance Classes


 These classes will give you confidence, grace, and lots of enjoyment as you head out to the dance floor.  Learn (or brush up on) popular dances such as: the Foxtrot, Swing, Waltz, Cha-Cha and the Rumba.  Experienced instructor, Donald Dollins, will be offering two different level classes… one for beginners and another for intermediate dancers.   These are ongoing classes, and will continue as long as there is interest.
