Director of Economic Development

The City of Waynesboro is seeking a full-time Director of Economic Development to plan and implement the economic development program for the City.  The Director is responsible for all projects, programs and initiatives related to the overall economic vitality of the City.  The economic development program focuses on recruitment of new businesses and industry and retention and expansion of existing businesses and industry.  The Director supervises the Director of Tourism and provides support and additional leadership for all tourism-related activities. The Director works in cooperation with the Waynesboro Downtown Development Incorporated, a not for profit organization, whose work focuses on the revitalization and economic vitality of the City’s downtown.  This position currently reports directly to the City Manager; the City’s Economic Development Authority fulfills an emerging and significant role in the economic development program. The City Council and the EDA are presently evaluating the overall economic development program and organizational structure to explore opportunities to maximize the benefit of the program. The Director is expected to maintain an active and engaged relationship with the EDA and provides technical and administrative support to the EDA and attends their meetings. Attendance at City Council meetings, regional meetings, and other Boards and Commissions is required as necessary. Equipment Mechanic

Department of Public Works.  Duties include, but are not limited to maintain & repair automotive/construction equipment; troubleshoot & diagnose problems; prepare & maintain computerized records, files &  reports; repair & change transmissions, hydraulic systems, & engines; change oils, fluids, filters, hoses; repair/replace tires, batteries, brakes, starters & other components of electrical systems; prepare vehicles for state inspection.  Thorough knowledge & skills of methods, tools, & equipment used in repair & maintenance of passenger cars, trucks, construction/maintenance equipment; ability to detect worn or broken parts; ability to follow oral/written instructions; skill in operation of various types of vehicles/equipment; ability to lift heavy objects, computer skills necessary.  Requires valid Virginia Class A CDL or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment. Any combination of education/experience equivalent to graduation from high school & considerable experience in repair & servicing of automotive/construction equipment. Maintenance Supervisor/ Sewer

Public Works Operations: Recruiting for the position of Maintenance Supervisor to over see, supervise, and participate in the construction, maintenance, and repair of sewer lines and related fixtures.    Requires heavy lifting, stooping, climbing crawling, and use of general hand tools and specialized equipment.  Thorough knowledge in repair, operation, maintenance, rehabilitation and construction of facilities to which assigned as well as occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.  Must have the ability to assign and supervise work; prepare reports, drawings and sketches; and prepare bill of materials. Requires knowledge, experience, and skills in the operation of backhoes, loaders, and related equipment. Must have the ability to prepare FY budget infor mation and be dependable. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, with considerable experience in the maintenance, operation, repair, and/or construction of public works and utilities facilities. The Waynesboro Police Reserves are seeking established, community-minded people to be Reserve Police Officers. Reserve Police Officers work with full time Officers in all aspects of policing to provide volunteer assistance with police duties in times of need. You must have a desire to serve your community, be 21 years of age, possess a valid driver's license, pass a background investigation and pass a drug screening test.
