Registration
Anyone may register for a library card by presenting identification showing his/her current address and completing a registration form. Library patron cards are updated every 2 years and can be used at Augusta County Library and Staunton Public Library.
Loan Periods
Most library materials may be checked out for a period of 3 weeks with 1 renewal (which can be made by phone) except for VIDEOs and DVDs, which are checked out for 1 week with 1 renewal. Books on reserve cannot be renewed. There will be a 1 week grace period for books and 2 days for videos and games.
Fines
A fine of 10 cents daily for books, videos, and DVDs will be charged on overdue items with a maximum fine of $2.00 for any one item. A $6.00 fine blocks the card from further use. There are NO fines for Senior Citizens. There are drop boxes for books and videos outside the library for use when the library is closed.
Reserve Policy
Items currently in circulation (including videos) may be placed on reserve for registered patrons. Patrons will be telephoned when the item is available and must retrieve the item within 1 week from the initial call or be removed from the reserved list.
Automated Notifications
We now have an automated phone call notification service in addition to our automated email notification service. Patrons will no longer be receiving overdue or arrived holds notices by mail, but rather by email or phone call only.
- Phone Call Holds: Patrons will receive an automated phone call message letting them know that a hold has come in. If you have any questions, please call your home library for more information. Your home library is the library where you go to pick up holds.
- Email Holds: Patrons who give us their email address will continue to receive email notifications when their hold has arrived.
Library Materials Recovery
The following takes place when Library materials are
60 days overdue or your account balance is $25 or more:
Your account is turned over to Unique Management Services, Inc., a collection agency specializing in library materials recovery. We will add a $10 service charge to your account balance.
Unique Management Services will attempt to contact you to request the return of the overdue library materials. If you have lost the overdue materials, they will ask you to pay the replacement cost.
If you have not returned the overdue library materials or made payment arrangements within 120 days, Unique
Management Services will report your past due account to a credit reporting agency.
Please contact Rhonda Smith regarding your account or with other questions.
