On Wednesday, 15 December 2010, Mr. Edward I. Misker, a volunteer crime analyst with the WPD, visited Mrs. Lynn Brewer, a fellow member of the Virginia Crime Analysts Network (VCAN) and the Crime Analysis Supervisor for the Newport News Police Department (NNPD). Mrs. Brewer provided a guided tour of the NNPD’s new (2007) headquarters facility. Mr. Misker was also able to attend the weekly Crime Meeting (Crime Statistics) meeting. At this meeting the three Precinct Commanders (North, Central, and South, divided into sixteen beats) provided weekly crime statistics to the command staff. The Investigations Bureau also provided statistics. The NNPD has approximately 440 sworn officers and 150 administrative/support personnel. Mr. Misker will attend a VCAN sponsored class on crime statistics and Excel taught by Mrs. Brewer on Friday, 7 January at the NNPD.
