Kelly WalkerCaptain Kelly Walker
Captain Kelly Walker is a 26 year veteran of the department beginning his service as Patrol Officer in August of 1985. During his career he has served as a Field Training Officer, Academy Instructor, DARE Officer, Crime Prevention Officer, Patrol Corporal, Patrol Sergeant and most recently as the Services Sergeant. In addition he has been a member of the department’s Hostage Negotiation Team since 1997 and has served as Team Commander since 2001. Captain Walker has served as an Instructor with Blue Ridge Crises Intervention Team since 2010 and is now an Instructor Trainer with the program. He has attended Blue Ridge Community College and has participated in several Police Leadership programs. He is an inactive life member of the Waynesboro First Aid Crew and a US Army Veteran, serving in the Military Police Corps.
Captain Walker is currently responsible for managing the department’s Support Services Division.
Support Services Division
The Support Services Division has one of the most vital missions in the department and a very dedicated, as well as diverse, work force to accomplish this mission. The division consists of both civilians and sworn personnel working in a variety of specialties that both support the department’s other two divisions and provide specific services to our citizens.  The division is separated into two elements, a Support Staff and Services Section. The Support Staff is led by an Office Manager and includes three records clerks and an Administrative Secretary/Evidence Clerk. The Services Section is led by a Police Sergeant and includes a Police Corporal, two School Resource Officers, Crime Prevention Officer, Police Technologist, Parking Enforcement Officer, Animal Control Officer and four Police Desk Clerks.
                                                                           
Some of the critical responsibilities carried out by members of the division include but are not limited to training, school safety and security, crime prevention, public relations, animal control, records management, Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN), technology support, parking enforcement, police desk operations, evidence and property management, sex offender registration, criminal booking, concealed handgun permit applicant background checks and a variety of administrative functions.

In addition, the division is responsible for the public information mission of the department which includes media relations and the release of information to various interested parties and the public, to include requests for information under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).The division also directs or supports other aspects of the department including the Police Auxiliary Organization, School Crossing Guards, Hostage Negotiation Team, The Police Chaplain Program and Police Crash Review Board.


The members of the Support Services Division are committed to providing the department and the citizens of Waynesboro with prompt, efficient, and professional service. In addition we strive in every interaction to live the Department’s Vision and Values.
