A big “Thank You’ to everyone who helped to make the new playground at the Rosenwald Community Center a reality! To the City of Waynesboro, the Waynesboro Moose Lodge #1309, Shiloh Baptist Church, the Rosenwald High School Alumni Association, and the Tuesday art class…thanks for the financial support you provided. To the many neighbors and patrons…thanks for your support in volunteering, baking for fundraisers, and overall enthusiasm. Every bit is greatly appreciated!
The playground equipment has now been installed, and the mulch and
border is scheduled be completed in the next week.
On Friday, November 22, at 3:30pm, we will be having a brief appreciation ceremony to officially acknowledge those who have supported the project and to open the playground for use. Please stop by and join us!
Since the inception of the Department of Parks and Recreation in 1966, it has grown significantly - from few facilities and limited programs to a nationally acclaimed network of leisure opportunities that reach out to all segments of Waynesboro's population.
The Department provides facilities for a full range of recreational activities, from arts and crafts and aerobics to athletic leagues and leisurely picnics.
It is the purpose of the Department of Parks and Recreation to promote recreational awareness through a well-rounded offering of high quality programs, classes and activities for all segments of Waynesboro's citizenry that are responsive to their overall well being, and furthermore to develop and promote Waynesboro's parks for these recreational endeavors.
The Department's over all mission is to identify and satisfy the public's recreational needs in Waynesboro. Obviously we need the public's assistance to accomplish this task. The Waynesboro Parks and Recreation Commission meets every other month at the Rosenwald Community Center. The public is encouraged to call for a meeting schedule and agenda. Time is provided at each meeting for comments or questions from citizens. The Department encourages you to take this opportunity to express your views and ideas.
Leisure activities and the positive use of leisure time tends to make us happier and helps to enrich our lives, no matter what our age. Whether you choose to walk in a park, participate in an athletic activity, take a class in an area that interests you, or enjoy a community special event, you will benefit from a wholesome recreational experience. It's all here in Waynesboro and it's available for everyone!
