Frequently Asked Questions

Q:        Can I pay my bill online or by phone?

A:        Yes.  Please visit Online Payments or contact the City Treasurer’s department at (540) 942-6606 for more information.

Q:        Can my bill be adjusted for an inside leak (ex. Leaking Toilet)?
A:        No.  We can only adjust bills for underground or crawl space leaks. More information can be found on ‘Policies’ page.

Q:        Can I have an extension on my bill if I know I won’t be able to pay on time?
A:        Yes.  You can avoid disconnection of your service when subject to a cut-off list by signing a payment agreement extending your payment for no more than 30 days from the original due date of your bill.  More information on our Cut-Off Policy can be found on ‘Policies’ page.

Q:        Do I have to pay sewer for water that doesn’t actually go in the sewer (i.e. watering, pools, sprinklers, etc)?
A:        Yes.  You will be charged the same amount of gallons for sewer as for water.   Pool fills over 5 thousand gallons are the only exception.  Please see the ‘Policies’ page for more information on Pool Fill Adjustments.

Q:        How much can I expect to pay on my bill?
A:        You will only pay for water that is used.  Our bills are based on actual consumption.  Everyone’s bill is different and depends on how many people are in the household and what kind of lifestyle each person leads.  The average consumption in the City of Waynesboro is 5 thousand gallons per person within a two month period.   To calculate an approximate bill, multiply the number of people that will live in the household by 5 then by the water and sewer rates.  Add that amount to your base charges and trash pickup charge (if you have it) to get a general idea of what you can expect to pay.

Q:        What happens if I’m late paying my bill?
A:        If we have not received payment by the due date posted on your bill, you will pay a late fee of 5% the total amount of the bill.  You will also be charged a final notice fee of $1.50.  If payment is not received by 9:00AM on the due date posted on the final bill, you will be charged a $40.00 cut-off list fee and service will be disconnected.  Amount due and fees must be paid before service is restored.  If this full amount is not paid in 30 days, a 1% charge will be added each 30 day period.

Q:        Can I start a new service over the phone?
A:        No.  In order to protect your privacy and identity we ask that you come to our office and start your account in person.  For more information on starting a new account, visit our “Services and Rates” page.

Q:        I’m moving within the City of Waynesboro, how do I transfer my service?
A:        You may call our office at 540-942-6643 or come by our office in person to verify your identity and provide us with your new information.  There is no charge for transferring your service.

Q:        What day is my trash pick up?
A:        Your weekly trash collection and monthly bulk pick up times are determined by the ward you are in.  Weekly garbage collection in Ward A is collected on Wednesday, Ward B-Tuesday, Ward C-Thursday and Ward D-Friday.  Monthly bulk collection in Ward A is during the first full week of the month, Ward B-second full week, Ward C-third full week and Ward D-fourth full week.  More Information on refuse collection can be found on the Environment and Safety Division page.
