Q. How much does trash service cost?
A. Weekly Refuse Collection costs $29.00 for 2 months of service.
Q. How do I sign up for Refuse Collection?
A. Contact the Utilities Department at 540- 942-6643 or go by their office at 503 W Main St.
Q. What will you collect for Refuse Collection?
A. Household refuse such as: food waste, paper products, cans and glass containers, lawn debris, etc. All items need to be bagged. Medical use needles and syringes need to be sealed in a plastic container (milk jugs, liquid laundry detergent bottles) for safe collection.
Q. What day is my trash collected?
A. Depending on the Ward you live in decides when your trash is collected. If you live in Ward A your pick up day is Wednesday, Ward B your pick up day is Tuesday, Ward C your pick up day is Thursday and Ward D your pick up day is Friday.
Q. What time do I need to have my can placed out for pickup?
A. Cans need to be placed out for pick up no later than 6:00 am
Q. Can I use my private can instead of the city refuse container?
A. No, due to safety concerns no privately owned cans will be dumped

Knuckleboom Collection
Q. When is my bulk (large items) going to be collected?
A. Depending on the Ward you live in decides when your bulk is collected. If you live in Ward A collection will be the FIRST FULL WEEK of every month, Ward B collection will be the SECOND FULL WEEK of every month, Ward C collection will be the THIRD FULL WEEK of every month and Ward D will be the FOURTH FULL WEEK of every month.
Q. What will you collect?
A. Brush from yard clean up and grind able wood, furniture, appliances, 2 tires per household, do-it-yourself construction/demolition debris, bagged grass clippings, carpeting removed from ONE ROOM ONLY, non-asbestos roof shingles, hardened latex paint (leave lid off until dry)

Q. What will NOT be collected?
A. Hazardous materials suck as batteries, pesticides, herbicides, pain, paint thinner, etc. (A special Hazardous Waste Collection is held every Fall at the Augusta County Government Center in Verona. Call 540-942-6720 for details.
Other items not collected include: stumps from tree removal, shrubbery with large root systems, masonry products (concrete blocks, bricks, mortar, etc) contactor generated construction/demolition debris, asbestos products or fluorescent lights.
Q. What if I need an extra Knuckleboom collection for my large items during the time they are not in my Ward?
A. We offer a Special Pick Up Service that is offered on a pay as need basis. This is in addition to the monthly bulk pick up that is offered free of charge to residential refuse customers. Special Pick ups may be ordered through the Solid Waste Division (Refuse Department) by calling 540-942-6764.
