Waynesboro Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is a division of the Department of Emergency Management and is staffed 24/7 year-round by a staff of highly trained public safety dispatchers. They receive, dispatch, and coordinate responses to all 911 calls for police, fire, and EMS. They can also, if necessary, deliver pre-arrival instructions to callers and aid them until help arrives. The Department of Emergency Management is also responsible for the coordination of emergency medical services and emergency management (disaster preparedness / planning, response, recovery, and mitigation), as well as local Homeland Security initiatives.

Accreditation
The Waynesboro Department of Emergency Management has received Accredited Emergency Medical Dispatch Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) status for the E911 Communications Center. This accreditation demonstrates the commitment and dedication of the Communications Center staff to meet high training standards and demonstrate excellence in emergency medical dispatching.

Traffic Preemption - How the System Works
During 2010, the City of Waynesboro began implementation of a traffic signal preemption system. Currently, over half of the signals in Waynesboro are outfitted with this equipment and crews continue to work to outfit the remaining signals. The intent of this message is to provide some basic information on traffic preemption and how it works so that motorists know what to expect and how to react when they encounter it.
