Stream Bank Remediation 2020

E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Corteva Agriscience, began remediating mercury contamination along the South River in 2016. Since then, five river bank areas have been remediated and restored . In February 2020, work began in North Park where approximately 1,500 feet of river bank was remediated. Several park improvements were completed as part of the project, including provisions for the Greenway extension, improved river vistas and access, a new basketball court, a canoe/kayak ramp, and a river walking path (see artist rendering below).

Future North Park
Playground
Our new playground system features fun and adventure for youth of all ages. The swing set can entertain toddlers and older children, while the main structure provides two slides, climbing ladders, monkey bars and a chin-up bar. With benches located around the facility, parents are able to keep a watchful eye.

Baseball field

Waynesboro’s children are now playing on our first ever lighted baseball field! The new field, which was made possible due to a grant from the Baseball Tomorrow Fund in 2011 is home to the Waynesboro Cal Ripken Baseball League. The field has lights, new bleachers, concession stand, bathrooms, dugouts, fencing, in-ground irrigation, and a newly constructed infield.
