Traffic Safety

Procedures for Requesting Safety Review

Citizens may request consideration of traffic signs and other control devices, or a review of traffic safety concerns by submitting a completed Traffic Safety Concern Application and, if applicable a site photo and/or drawing.

Traffic safety concerns are reviewed by the Engineering Division of Public Works. Once the application is received a Cartegraph request number will be assigned and you will receive an email with this request number within (2) two weeks. Depending on the issue selected, staff will review MUTCD Code, Crash Data, Daily Traffic Volume, and will make a site visit if necessary. In some cases an outside safety expert may be required.

If checking the status of your request you can email Publicworks@ci.waynesboro.va.us or leave a voicemail on the Engineering extension at 540-942-6624 (Option 1). Please provide your Cartegraph request number when checking your status.

If your issue does not currently meet the requirements for signage installation, etc. then staff will perform a periodic review of the area of concern to track any changes.
