About the Commission
Members consider all matters affecting the City and report to the Council thereon and to recommend the institution of works and projects. Where the Council has referred a project or work of improvement, the Commission will study, report, and recommend action to the Council concerning those works or projects within 90 days. The Stormwater and Flood Control Commission will annually recommend to the Council a budget for capital improvements and for expenses of operation and maintenance within the City. Meetings: 941 Fir St. Public Works Administration.
The members serve four-year terms, with a limit of two and a half full consecutive terms per ordinance number 2000-7.
In August 2014, the City Council asked the Stormwater and Flood Control Control Commission to prepare a recommendation for a possible Stormwater utility fee for the City. The Commission created a Citizen Advisory Committee to review information about the long-term budgetary requirements for the Stormwater Program and the structure of existing stormwater utility fee programs elsewhere in Virginia.
