About the Commission
The Disability Services Board and the Senior Advocacy Commission were combined to create the Disability and Aging Board for Independence (Ordinance 2016-75).DABI shall meet, as needed, to assess and evaluate needs and resources relative to seniors and those with disabilities; to plan for and promote public sessions, forums, and surveys in coordination with other agencies, individuals, and/or entities which serve or support the well-being of these populations; and, to advocate for situations and issues which will enhance the independence and quality of life for the population which is represented by DABI’s interests. DABI shall recommend to City Council and city manager, ways and means of providing and improving services to older adults and/or to those with disabilities; and, shall be responsible for initiating and supporting efforts to increase the visibility of the aforementioned residents in the community, including them in the life of the city and for recognizing their contributions to the community-at-large.
