The Planning Commission was established as an advisory board to the Waynesboro City Council. The Commission directs the growth and development of the City by reviewing all zoning applications, subdivision plats, site development applications and plans for municipal improvement in order to promote the orderly development of the locality and its environs. The City Code enumerates the ways in which Planning Commissions shall function as the official body planning for the future growth and development of a locality, subject to the appeal by the City Council. Members shall have the powers, functions and duties provided for by the State Planning Law.
This seven-member commission, appointed by the Mayor and City Council, works in conjunction with the City’s Department of Planning and Code Administration.
The Planning Commission generally meets monthly, on the Tuesday following the third Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Additionally, they attend occasional joint public hearings and work sessions with the Mayor and City Council when scheduled to do so, Council Chambers, Charles T. Yancey Municipal Bldg., 503 West Main Street, Waynesboro.
