Posted on: April 2, 2020[ARCHIVED] No Wet Wipes/Disinfectant Wipes, Grease, Rags, Paper Towels Disposal
What should I NOT be flushing down the toilet right now?
Well, really, the following items should NEVER be flushed down toilets, put down a sink drain or garbage disposal or any other entryway into the Wastewater System:
Wet Wipes
Disinfectant Wipes
Grease
Rags
Paper towels
Or any like item
Why Not?
The Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) treats all wastewater at our plant on Essex Avenue. Wipes and other "rag-type" items that a resident may flush or put down a drain will enter the Treatment Plant facility. If more people begin disposing of items in this way, the plant can experience operational issues. There HAS been an increase in this type of disposal during this COVID-19 situation. So we DO need your help. Spread the word, please.
How should I dispose of them instead?
Wipes, rags and paper towels can be disposed of in your refuse container. Grease can be allowed to cool and solidify. Once cool and solid, scrape the grease into a container that can be thrown away. When container is full, place it in a plastic bag to prevent leakage and then throw it in the garbage.
Is the Plant still operating during COVID-19?
Yes. The plant will remain fully operational and compliant.
