[ARCHIVED] Potential for Hazardous Conditions on Residential Roads Overnight and Into Morning Commute Hours

Florence Ave Bridge Reopenin 5 JPG

Will we continue to plow roads in residential areas?

We are plowing residential areas and will continue to do so until all are completed, but we are currently having minimal success getting down to bare pavement.

Why is there a problem getting down to bare pavement?

The last hour of precipitation saturated what was very manageable snow and, in the hours following, low temperatures have further locked up the snow/ice mixture.

What measures are being taken with the snow/ice mixtures left in residential areas?

We have been salting hills in residential areas after attempts at plowing were less than successful.

Why might the residential roads remain hazardous?

With the forecasted temperatures overnight there is a possibility that a large portion of residential roads will remain hazardous (icy) throughout the night and into the morning commute.

Are the Primary and Secondary roads affected?

Currently the primary and secondary roads are mostly bare pavement and fared much better due to timing of removal.
