[ARCHIVED] Man Steals Fruit Snacks & Runs Away

Marquis Lamar Pullen

The Waynesboro Police Department arrested a Waynesboro man Friday morning after he stole a box of fruit snacks from a local grocery store and then fled from officers. Marquis Lamar Pullen, 19 years old, faces two misdemeanors after last week’s incident at the Kroger, 245 Arch Avenue, which happens to be across the street from the Police Department. At 11:15 AM on March 20, an officer responded to the store for a report of a male shoplifter, later identified as Pullen, who had taken some merchandise.

Before the officer arrived, the WEOC broadcast that the suspect had fled the store heading south on foot. Additional officers & detectives who were at the police department responded to assist with the search. A few minutes later, officers saw Pullen emerge from a storage shed in the 400 block of Market Avenue. They ordered him to stop at which point he resumed his flight from justice. Officers were able to intercept Pullen near South Wayne Avenue & 12th Street where he was taken into custody without further incident. The entire search and arrest of Pullen lasted about ten minutes and involved eight officers & detectives.

Officers charged Pullen with petit larceny/2nd offense and obstruction of justice. He is incarcerated at Middle River Regional Jail.

The Scooby Doo fruit snacks, valued at $3.99, were recovered.
