Update - August 12, 2015

The Waynesboro Police Department has charged a 14 year old male juvenile from Charlottesville with the following offenses in connection with the July 30th shooting at an apartment complex in the 600 block of Hamlet Avenue:
• Shoot, Stab, Cut or Wound by Mob (f). VA Code 18.2-41
• Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony (f). VA Code 18.53.1
• Possession of a Firearm by a Juvenile (m). VA Code 18.2-308.7
• 2 counts Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling (f). VA Code 18.2-279
• 2 counts felony Damage Property. VA Code 18.2-137
• 2 counts misdemeanor Damage Property. VA Code 18.2-137

The juvenile is currently being held at the Blue Ridge Juvenile Detention Center in Charlottesville on un-related charges. He will be transferred to the Shenandoah Valley Juvenile Detention Center in the near future on these charges.

This is still an ongoing investigation and further charges are expected.

Previous Release - July 30, 2015

The Waynesboro Police Department is currently investigating a shooting that occurred overnight at an apartment complex located in the 600 block of Hamlet Avenue. Shortly before midnight on July 29, 2015 officers responded to the apartment complex for a report of residents hearing multiple gunshots. After arriving at the scene officers learned that a 23 year old male victim from Waynesboro had been transported to Augusta Health by an acquaintance. The victim was treated for a single gunshot wound to his left shoulder and was subsequently released from the hospital earlier this morning.

Detectives processed the crime scene and interviewed residents until approximately 6am this morning. Two vehicles and one of the apartment buildings were damaged as a result of the gunfire. This is an ongoing investigation and no additional information is available at this time.
