[ARCHIVED] Steak Stuffer Stymied by Astute Store Staffer

Griffith, Brittany Bly

August 30, 2015

The Waynesboro Police Department arrested a Waynesboro woman after she attempted to make off with over $100 worth of meat from a local grocery store Friday afternoon. Brittany Bly Griffith, 25 years old, faces one count of Felony Shoplifting (having 3 prior larceny convictions) for trying to steal from Martin’s, 437 Tiffany Drive.

At approximately 1:15 PM on August 28, officers responded to Martin’s for a report of a female who fled after being confronted in the store by an employee on the suspicion of shoplifting. The employee saw Griffith put five packages of steak in her purse and then leave the store. When he confronted her, she gave up her bag but then left the store after being told the police were en route. She got into a waiting vehicle that was last seen heading south on Rosser Avenue. After a vehicle description was broadcast by the Waynesboro Emergency Operations Center, officers intercepted the vehicle on Interstate 64 at the eastbound 91 mile marker. Griffith was arrested without incident.

She is being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.
