The Waynesboro Police Department detoured traffic on West Main Street today in the 1600-1800 blocks as a precaution while investigating gunfire that struck a neighborhood residence.
Officers were called to the area around 2:40 P.M. by a complainant whose home had just been struck by a single gunshot, and after a brief investigation determined that the round had come from a residence in the 1700 block of West Main.

Officer’s attempted contact at the residence with no response and due to the circumstances developed a plan to make entry to ensure no one had been injured and needed immediate assistance.

No one was located in the residence, the scene was declared safe, and West Main Street was re-opened to normal traffic after approximately 30 minutes.
Officers remain on the scene and are actively investigating the incident.
Anyone with information about this case may call the Waynesboro Police Department at 540-942-6675 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-322-2017.
