[ARCHIVED] Drug Dealer Drives Dangerously to Dodge Department

Robert Mitchell Martin

The Waynesboro Police Department arrested a local man on numerous charges after a pursuit Tuesday evening in the Wayne Hills part of the city. Robert Mitchell Martin, 21 years old of no fixed address, faces two felonies and two misdemeanors after last night’s escapade that took officers from Wayne Hills into the Philippines section of the city.

At 7:30 PM on April 12, 2016, an officer was on patrol when he observed Martin operating a 2015 Nissan sedan north on King Avenue. The officer determined Martin’s driving status to be “revoked.” When he attempted to stop Martin’s vehicle in the 400 block of King Avenue, Martin didn't pull over and kept going about 25 mph. He then sped up to 50 mph and took officers on a nearly two mile pursuit which ended in the 600 block of Hamlet Avenue. When Martin finally stopped his vehicle and got out, he tried to ditch a baggie of suspected controlled substances, possibly marijuana and prescription pills. As officers tried to arrest him, he became combative so officers used a Taser to subdue him.

Inside the vehicle, officers found green backpack that multiple plastic baggies. They also found a smoking device and a container of white powder.

Martin faces the following charges:

• Possession of a Schedule I or II drug with the Intent to Distribute (f)
• Eluding (f)
• Driving on a Revoked License (m)
• Resisting Arrest (m)
Martin sustained minor injuries from his scuffle with police. He is being held at Middle River Regional Jail. Officers also impounded his vehicle.
