Mystery Shopper Scam

The department has been made aware that citizens are receiving priority mail envelopes containing a letter from a fictitious organization calling itself the “Mystery Shopper Providers Association.” The letter instructs victims to cash a fake money order made out to them and then shop at a local store spending $40.00 + $120 commission, sending the remaining funds to a third party. This is clearly a scam so please be aware and immediately destroy this fraudulent letter and money order.

We have copied a sample letter and money order below for reference.
